1 Timothy 4:6-8 “If thou put the brethren in remembrance of these things, thou shalt be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished up in the words of faith and of good doctrine, whereunto thou hast attained. But refuse profane and old wives' fables, and exercise thyself rather unto godliness. For bodily exercise profits little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.”

1 Corinthians 14:14 “For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my understanding is unfruitful.”

A different translation of this scripture says that if I pray in my unknown, it is unknown to my natural man, I do not know what I am saying but the real me prays! Hallelujah!! I want the real me praying more than the natural me.

Last month we spoke about how, putting the Word into our heart, will exercise our spirit. I want to show you a few other ways.

running-exercise1 Timothy 4:6-8 says, “If thou put the brethren in remembrance of these things, thou shalt be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished up in the words of faith and of good doctrine, whereunto thou hast attained. In this portion of Scripture, the Word is telling us that there are 3 important things. The first thing, in verse 6, is “words of faith” or living by faith, or as the Message translation says, the “Message of faith”. The second thing is “good teaching” or a strong belief system, or as the Message Bible puts it, “following sound teaching”. Thirdly, “exercise thyself rather unto godliness”. Exercise yourself in the God-life! Practice the God-life – the divine life, the spirit life. God wants your human spirit, the inner life, to be exercised. “Train yourself to be godly” (NIV). “Exercise daily in God – no spiritual flabbiness, please!” (Message).

Verse 8 shows us that exercising yourself unto godliness is profitable unto ALL things. Training you to be godly, exercising daily in God, HAS PROFIT UNTO ALL THINGS. It promises a good life here on earth and for the life that is to come. This is enough information for me to want to train myself in godliness. The simplest definition of godliness is “God-like-ness”. I want to train myself in God-like-ness.

bible reading"Now brethren, you know that the household of Stephanas were the first converts and our first fruits and they have devoted themselves to the ministry of the saints” [1 Corinthians16:15].

Kit and I have purposed in our hearts to develop an addiction for the word of God.  All we need to do is to give it our undivided time and attention.  The more we give ourselves to it, the more the desire will grow!

We want the word to penetrate so deep that it consumes our lives completely; spirit, soul and body [1 Thessalonians 5:23]; the more you get, the more you want!  We believe the Holy Spirit, the Spirit behind the word, will draw us and lead us closer to Jesus than we ever thought possible.

We are determined to be “Word Addicts”.
